SURFACES Urban objects for
Japan Design Foundation. International Design Competition Osaka
2005
Work selected for Excellent
Works / design business matchmaking exhibition.
"Surfaces" are walking training objects that simulate natural
surfaces such as hills or sea coast sands. Situated on the city
sidewalks, "Surfaces" bring a concept of ecological consciousness
to the urban people. The goal is to divert the pedestrians from
their habitual movements, and remind them of natural surfaces. Unlike
the flat surfaces of typical urban streets, "Surfaces"allow people
to develop muscular activity and body control, as well as to feel
closer to the nature.
Created with reutilized rubber wastes, "Surfaces" illustrate the
advancement of ecologically oriented technology. "
